Garden & Lawn Gear, Decoded

Grow Lab ranks garden, lawn, and grow-light gear by the specs that actually decide results — PPFD and DLI for grow lights (not "equivalent watts"), mower deck size vs. yard size, GPM flow for hoses and sprinklers, root-depth-matched raised bed sizing, and the NPK numbers decoded plainly. We don't publish prices or star ratings, every pick names an honest drawback, and we stay on equipment facts — never pesticide, chemical-application, or plant-health claims.

Most "best grow light" and "best mower" lists sell the badge, not the spec. A grow light's "1000W equivalent" sticker says nothing about the PPFD actually reaching your canopy; a "million-square-foot" sprinkler claim says nothing about its precipitation-rate gradient; and a "10-stage" garden gimmick usually hides a plain 3-4 part build. We start from the number that changes the buying decision, then name the honest tradeoff.

How we work

We're a research-based site: we analyze manufacturer specifications, published USDA and cooperative-extension reference material, and aggregated owner-feedback themes rather than physically testing every product. We explain tradeoffs plainly, always name a downside, and stick to equipment and reference facts — never a pesticide, chemical-application, or plant-health-outcome claim. Read our full methodology →
